Deputy President Director of Pertamina, Wiko Migantoro, said Pertamina's oil production in 2023 was supported by domestic production of 415 MBOPD and inernational production of 151 MBOPD. Domestic oil production in 2023 fluctuated from 417 MBOPD to 415 MBOPD, but for blocks where Pertamina is the operator, the production increased from 337 MBOPD to 339 MBOPD. Pertamina itself managed the oil decline rate from 19 percent to 2 percent through a productive work program.

“Domestic gas production increased 3 percent from 2,241 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) in 2022 to 2,388 MMSCFD in 2023,” Wiko told a hearing with Commission VII of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

Throughout 2023, Wiko added, Pertamina has drilled 799 wells massively, 16 percent higher than in 2022. Pertamina also conducted 835 re-workings or 31 percent higher than in 2022 and 32,589 well maintenance jobs or 11 percent higher than in 2022.

“Currently, Pertamina contributes 69 percent of national lifting for oil and 34 percent for gas,” Wiko said.

He added that Pertamina's upstream oil and gas activities contribute to state revenue both nationally and regionally. Pertamina's upstream oil and gas contributed US$3 billion from taxes and US$4.2 billion from non-tax state revenue (PNBP).

Vice President for Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, said Pertamina allocates a large investment in upstream oil and gas to maintain the decline rate and at the same time increase oil and gas production.

“About 60 percent of Pertamina's CapEx is focused on upstream oil and gas to support national energy security and independence,” Fadjar said.
