Pollsters list potential candidates for president and vice president in 2024 elections

This year of 2023 will be politically, a tough year for Indonesia before the General Election in 2024. The battle between each presidential candidate is already started and is predicted to be difficult during 2023. While the potential candidates have started their early campaign, the Indonesian people have also been anticipating their new pair of leaders. Several polling institutions have also conducted surveys of the most popular candidates.

LSI (Indonesian Survey Institute)

The Indonesian Survey Institute (LSI) is a public opinion research institute related to political contestation such as national and regional elections and public policy making. From the survey about the presidential and vice presidential candidacy, they have revealed 19 presidential candidates and 31 names for vice president. The variable used in this survey consisted of 49.4% male and 50.6% female. The age group ranges from between 20 and 60 years old. The ethnicity varies in the survey.

Charta Politika is a political consulting agency with the main strength in accurate political analysis based on a complete database, both quantitatively and qualitatively. The survey from Charta Politika was conducted from December 8-16, 2022. The survey involved 1,220 respondents from 34 provinces. Charta Politika gave 10 names for presidential candidates and 18 names for vice presidential candidates.

Indopol survey and consulting

Indopol survey and consulting was established by several political and policy research activists with more than 10 years experience in conducting surveys and political consultants in regency/mayoralty, provincial and legislative/presidential elections. For the upcoming elections, they conducted a survey from November 8-14, 2022. The respondents consisted of 50.58% male and 49.42% female. The agen group ranged from less than 21 years old to more than 55 years old. The ethnicity was also very diverse from 34 provinces. The survey provided 16 presidential candidates and 16 vice presidential candidates.

Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting

The Saiful Mujani Research and Consulting (SMRC) released a survey about the electability trends for presidential candidates only in the website. The survey took place on November 5-13, 2022. The SMRD revealed 45 names. Meanwhile, the variable used is the same with the LSI with slight difference in the number of variables used.

Survey Litbang 'Kompas'

Kompas is one of the most reputable newspaper and media in Indonesia. The media's research and development (litbang) division conduced a survey from September 24, 2022, to October 7, 2022. A total of 1,200 respondents from 34 provinces took part in the survey. The survey resulted in 14 names for presidential candidacy.

    • Prabowo Subianto (~16.0%)
    • Ridwan Kamil (~8.9%)
    • Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno (~3.5%)

From these surveys, Central Java governor Ganjar Pranowo - a seasoned politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) - has the highest electability rate followed by former Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan and Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, who is also chairman of Gerindra Party.

As for the vice presidential position, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil has the highest electability among other candidates.
